I only recently got back into watching anime so Izetta: The Last Witch, a series that aired in 2016, completely passed me by. It’s an alt-history WWII fantasy story with strong yuri vibes, and the production values are fucking immaculate. Also the OP features the titular witch riding an anti-tank rifle like a broom so I’m already sold.
#izetta the last witch#the english dub is great too#the princess is voiced by mallorie rodak aka the english voice of frieren

Oh I forgot to mention it yesterday but I finally finished watching Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. Exceptional from end to end, genuinely a new benchmark for the traditional fantasy genre. Frieren repeatedly blew me away with its thoughtful character writing, strong core narrative and mesmerizing animation. This probably has one of my favorite dub casts ever, one that I’m convinced will be as iconic as Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist’s are now. Everyone knocks it out of the park but especially Mallorie Rodak’s Frieren, Jordan Dash Cruz’s Stark, Christopher Guerrero’s Eisen and Morgan Berry’s Übel.
If you somehow missed this show while it was airing, do yourself a favor and fix that. You will not regret it

I keep thinking about voice claims for my OCs and like…ugh, there’s so many good ones out there.
For Gordy, he’s so hard! I love the idea that he’s got this gravelly voice that seems to come out of nowhere (think Harvey Fierstein or Alex Brightman), but then I hear Jim Rash and go, that’s it! That’s him.
Andddd I still can’t decide, ugh.
Moriko is easier though. She’s got a low, soft-spoken voice that doesn’t raise very often, so I’d go with Mallorie Rodak—the way she voices Frieren is perfect for her.
Geraldine would be Jennifer Cody, full on southern drawl, loud and making sure everyone hears her. Easy peasy. Slash on the other hand…? Probably a soft-spoken Khary Payton.

If anyone is at an anime convention that Mallorie Rodak, Jill Harris or Jordan Dash Cruz, the English voice actors for Friren, Fern & Stark, you need to ask them to say how those characters would say "Let it rip".

Voice headcannon idea if Storm Hawks ever gets redubbed
Mallorie Rodak (who voiced Great Sage in Reincarnated as a Slime and Frieren in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) as The Oracle
Originally while yes Lisa Ortiz was my pick for the Oracle, a friend of mine got me into an anime that gave me a voice headcannon idea for this. ^^

I look super awkward BUT here is me in my Izetta cosplay with Mallorie Rodak, Fine's English voice actress! She was so excited to see my cosplay! And even took a pic to send to Skyler McIntosh, who voices Izetta 🥰🥰🥰 I had her sign a Fine print as well as my bluray. Meeting her was so wonderful and she was so so so sweet!!!

OKAY so I've seen the first two episodes of the Ultraman Z English dub and here are my thoughts on some of the voices (it's good news, go watch the dub):
Zeno Robinson as Haruki: He's great! Right now he's my favourite. He brings a lot of energy to the role and I was very endeared from the word go (specifically the part in the first episode with Haruki saving a dog). I can think of so many moments that I'm excited to see! I'm not gonna spoil them just in case but I know they are coming and it's making me rub my hands together like a weird little gremlin.
Matt Shipman as Z: Z was probably the one I was most worried about because I'm very partial to Tasuku Hatanaka's Z and Z is one of by favourite Ultras in general. Overall he sounded more mature than I expected, but I don't think that's a bad thing? It's always kind of been my headcanon that Z is trying very, very, VERY hard to look dependable and cool during the events of the series because it's his first time on Earth and he wants to make a good impression, and Matt Shipman's delivery lines right up with that. (I also keep forgetting that Z isn't nearly as goofy in-series as he is in the voice drama.) Honestly I wasn't totally sold on his voice until the scene in episode 2 when Haruki starts being more formal. I'm not sure if the little voice crack when he says "that's enough" was on purpose, but it's perfect.
It's also interesting to see the differences in adaptation here. In the original, Z is more creeped out by Haruki being so humble but he keeps his composure. In the dub, he's surprised and we get to see his serious front crack just a bit. This isn't a complaint by the way; I just think it's interesting that different adaptations can bring out different sides of the characters sometimes. Also it's very, very funny that Z says "ultra-obsequious" in the dub. Him pulling a word like "obsequious" out of nowhere really sells that he talks weird. "I request your aid, dude" in the first episode nearly made me choke on my tea.
Mick Lauer as Juggler: I think it's a bit too early to for me to make a decision on this one, because the Orb influence is too strong and I keep wanting to hear a more trickster-like element to his voice. I did like that kind of threatening edge in Mick Lauer's voice in the second episode though!
Mallorie Rodak as Yoko: It's kind of ridiculous how well her voice fits? If you told me that Rima Matsuda was a native English speaker and came back to dub herself, I would honestly believe you. I'm so, so excited to hear her take on Yoko in the last few episodes (if you know, you know)!
Macy Anne Johnson as Yuka: You can really tell that Macy Anne Johnson is having a lot of fun, and that makes her a joy to watch/listen to, honestly. She's probably my second favourite performance. I'm wondering if people might be put off by her energy, but it worked for me!
Sean Schemmel as Zero: I honestly really like Sean Schemmel as Zero! I was pretty lukewarm about Zero's voice in The Destined Crossroad English dub because I didn't feel that they managed to capture his rough around the edges, almost delinquent-like vibe, but I think this voice does a way better job of getting that roughness across. Also this means that Zero is Goku and that's just great lmao
#not a liveblog#ultraman z#the wait for episode 19 is gonna take forever#good thing they're showing 2 episodes a week#look I NEED TO KNOW what ace sounds like

I’m watching Goblin Slayer bc Mallorie Rodak, the English VA of Frieren in Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, also voices High Elf Archer in that anime and I’m actually surprised by how many similar topics they cover.
Both of them function as commentary on common fantasy anime tropes, with Frieren taking place 80 years after the end of the “kill the demon king” story while in Goblin Slayer that story is happening offscreen with a different set of heroes, and the anime follows a dude who is just like. Really good at killing goblins, with the conceit being that low level monsters in fantasy adventures shouldn’t be ignored just bc you’ve outleveled them.
One scene of Goblin Slayer literally even has the “human lives are short” conversation that Frieren bases its entire concept around, and while High Elf Archer is certainly a more upbeat and chipper character than Frieren, they reach largely the same conclusion.
That said, Goblin Slayer is waaay more exploitative when it comes to showing the consequences of adventuring gone wrong, particularly in regards to female characters, so I still prefer Frieren overall, but it’s fun examining parallels.

it was a hard move JHDFJHD, but i also (temporarily... bc still thinkin abt it) changed Rhys's voiceclaim to Mallorie Rodak (you might know as the eng dub voice of Frieren). i really liked her take on Frie's voice since it captures that tone of maturity, but at times there's still a hint of like "youthful" whimsy and silliness in it when those moments happen--basically mostly everything i see in Rhys bWEHEHE
#luo.txt#luphorics oc: rhy'savyn#might reconsider but we'll see#Frie's voice is the closest match to the tone of Rhys's voice at their current age#but the reason it was a hard move was because Rhys has a tinge of a Filipino accent (not like that super exaggerated one)#which was why their prior voiceclaim was Neon from VALORANT (Vanille Velasquez)#BUT WE'LL SEE bc tbh besides Vanille its been tough trying to hunt down ph VAs#i was also considering Liza Soberano's voice as Trese#but she's more on the stoic end which isn't really Rhys either )':#so just imagine this kind of speaking tone with Frie but with said tinge of Filipino accent jkdfjdsjkdf
